Palazzo Corigliano

In Piazza S. Domenico, the heart of Naples’ historical centre, this 18th century building now houses university activity. The previous layout with its intensive, fine decoration has been entirely restored on the central floors to host compati-ble activities. It has been enriched by the profound transfor-mation of the lower part and the attic.
Openings in the inner courtyard paving provide views of the 18th century facades from underground passageways while also illuminating areas marked by archaeological remains. A new space under the courtyard arranges greek extant walls and 16th century re-mains. New and ancient forms thus show the history of the site and the building. There is a strong visual link between the amphitheatre in the basement and the courtyard – the meeting place and spatial centre of the complex.
